I’ve been AWOL from the site for a while as I finished up the rewrite of my kids’ book, The Dead Kid Detective Agency. The Dead Kid Detective Agency is a book for young adults being published by ECW Press in Fall 2011, and I’m pretty excited about it, despite

Coming Fall 2011 from ECW Press
how much work writing it has been. Writing is hard! And I’m terrible at it, don’t let anyone convince you otherwise!
It’s a relief to be done the most recent round of edits, but I’m worried about the new version. So much has changed since my last draft: the book now has two narrators instead of one, I’ve deleted one major character and actress Phoebe Cates is now pivotal to the book’s plot. Clearly this is either one of the greatest young adult novels ever written or the hottest mess to hit bookstores in ages. I guess you can decide later this year.
No matter what the insides of the book will be like, it will at least have a great cover, designed by the excellent David Gee. Check out his book design blog here.
And while I’m talking about books, be sure to check out The Cultural Gutter, co-written by good friend Carol Borden, a compendium of the best essays from the popular website that covers science fiction, fantasy, comics, romance, genre movies and games. In the coming days and weeks, I’ll be updating this site way more regularly.
